Stook Koffie Roostery – Full Brand & Design Process
As the Head Graphic Designer at Stook Koffie Roostery, I was responsible for developing and maintaining a cohesive visual identity across all brand touchpoints—from print and packaging to digital and in-store experiences. My approach combined strategic thinking, storytelling, and practical application to ensure consistency and impact.
1. Discovery & Brand Understanding
The process began with gaining a deep understanding of the brand. Stook is more than just a coffee shop—it’s a warm, community-driven space centered around quality coffee and wood-fired pizzas.
I identified key brand attributes:
- Rustic yet refined
- Warm, inviting, and community-focused
- Authentic and handcrafted
- A balance between coffee culture and artisanal food
This foundation guided every design decision moving forward.
2. Concept Development
From the insights gathered, I developed a strong creative direction:
- A vintage-industrial aesthetic inspired by traditional coffee roasteries
- Incorporation of mechanical and locomotive elements (seen in the train illustration) to symbolize craftsmanship, movement, and roasting processes
- Use of classic badge-style logos to reinforce heritage and authenticity
Moodboards and visual references were used to align the brand direction with stakeholders before execution.
3. Logo & Visual Identity Design
I refined and applied the existing logo into a flexible system:
- The primary oval badge logo communicates heritage and trust
- A secondary illustrated mark (train) adds character and storytelling
- Supporting elements like textures, icons, and patterns create depth and versatility
Typography choices were carefully selected:
- Serif fonts for a classic, timeless feel
- Clean supporting typefaces for readability across menus and social media
4. Colour Strategy
I established a rich, earthy colour palette:
- Deep browns → coffee, warmth, authenticity
- Bold reds → energy, appetite appeal, and brand recognition
- Neutral kraft tones → sustainability and a handcrafted feel
This palette ensured strong visibility while staying true to the brand’s identity.
5. Packaging & Print Design
A major part of my role was translating the brand into physical experiences:
Packaging:
- Pizza boxes designed with minimal ink on kraft material to maintain a natural, cost-effective aesthetic
- Coffee cups and mugs featuring bold branding for strong in-hand visibility
Print Collateral:
- Business cards and stationery aligned with the rustic theme
- Newspaper-style menus to enhance storytelling and create a unique dining experience
- In-store elements that reinforced brand consistency
Every piece was designed with both visual appeal and production practicality in mind.
6. Social Media & Marketing Content
I created ongoing content for digital platforms:
- Promotional posts (e.g., pizza specials, events)
- Branded templates for consistency
- Engaging layouts combining food photography with bold typography
The goal was to:
- Maintain a strong, recognizable identity online
- Drive engagement and foot traffic
- Communicate promotions clearly and effectively
7. Photography & Visual Content Direction
I directed and produced food and lifestyle imagery:
- Focus on warm lighting and natural textures
- Showcasing real moments—coffee, pizza, family atmosphere
- Emphasizing authenticity over overly polished visuals
This helped reinforce the brand’s welcoming and grounded personality.
8. Brand Consistency & Implementation
As Head Designer, I ensured consistency across all platforms:
- Created reusable templates and guidelines
- Standardized layouts for menus, ads, and social posts
- Maintained visual coherence across print, digital, and in-store materials
This consistency strengthened brand recognition and professionalism.
9. Problem Solving & Practical Design Thinking
Throughout the process, I balanced creativity with real-world constraints:
- Designed for cost-effective printing (limited colours, kraft materials)
- Ensured scalability across different formats
- Adapted designs for quick turnaround marketing needs
10. Final Outcome
The result was a cohesive, recognizable brand identity that:
- Reflects the warmth and authenticity of Stook
- Enhances the customer experience both in-store and online
- Supports marketing efforts with strong, consistent visuals
- Positions Stook as a memorable, community-focused destination
